About this book
Four Arabian Nights stories, including Sinbad, Aladdin, the Three Calenders, and the Sleeper Awakened, bring marvels and reversals to readers of fairy tales. On Sinbad’s island, the inhabitants shelter in boats at night because apes take over their city after dark. Aladdin uses the lamp’s servant to remove a bride and groom from their wedding chamber, making the scene both threatening and absurd. The formal, old-fashioned narration gives these episodes the sound of stories told aloud.
