About this book

Baum’s children’s fairy tale sends Dorothy from Kansas into a strange land, where she joins Ozma and familiar companions in a rescue adventure. With a golden key, she opens a door in the rock and finds a small copper figure waiting inside, one of the story’s curious mechanical marvels. In the Nome King’s palace, he talks of turning Dorothy and her friends into ornaments as if choosing decorations, while his Steward warns him of the danger. Even the Cowardly Lion admits that fear has accompanied his supposed acts of courage.
